Winter friendships, fun and games!
The children this week have been fully immersed in creative and collaborative role-play! It has been so wonderful to watch the children working so well together to create their own narratives, props and games.
The listening skills on display have been incredible as they have negotiated their own strong ideas and allowed them to form into one collective role-play game. The children built a boat together, they discussed where each stick should go and decided as a group where the seats, beds, sail and oars should go as they were building together. Once built the children sang songs and went off on a wonderful imaginative adventure expressing themselves creatively and in time with each other!
These negotiating skills are being used in everything the children are doing. Often the children have different ideas about how to approach a group task and they are now learning how to solve these problems and express their ideas to each other. One day the children built an obstacle course using planks to climb up to a big log and jump off. They managed to decide on which plank should go where after disagreeing for a while.
On one wonderful day we saw the children find lots of minibeasts! These were found behind some bark on a log that was falling apart. Woodlice, black beetles and a hibernating wasp were all found and studied in detail with eyes peering at them from millimetres away! After studying them the children discussed how to help them find a safe place for winter. After some deliberation the children decided to hide the bark against a tree to protect the little creatures from the rain and cold!
What a wonderful week in the forest. We hope you have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you all next week!
