We ended last week before the long Easter weekend with some lovely easter activities in and out of the forest. Some of the children worked hard to construct a beautiful ballet stage to put on an Easter ballet show for us all which was inspired by one child who was taking part in a ballet class the day after. This construction fever continued throughout the day with children building their own motorcycles to help them to explore the world. The children all worked together to make sure that everyone had their own motorcycle and that they were all ready to go and explore the wonders of the world! Speaking of which, the children on one camp went to explore the wonders of the pond near our forest. The children were able to go and look at some frog spawn which they described as squishy bubbles and absolutely loved exploring the wildlife around the pond.
Heading into the new week, we once again welcomed some chillier weather, but this did not distract us from the excitement of having some siblings and familiar faces back in the forest with us for the Easter holiday camp! The children at Putney Heath love holiday camps as it allows them to interact with older and different children and they always bring such an amazing dynamic to the forest. We’ve had some amazing activities take place this week, beginning with some awesome den building, car constructions and camper van assembly. The children used these vehicles to go on holiday and made sure that the camper van was big enough to fit the whole family in!
Further into the week we welcomed back some of our Little Forest Friends (small wooden gnomes). We haven’t seen our little friends for a while, so it has been lovely to welcome them out again this week. The children have loved creating small villages for the gnomes, playing families with them and using them to support their role play scenarios. Alongside this, the children have enjoyed lots of painting, shop role play, and our library has been as popular as ever. The children this week have been really fascinated by sea life creatures, wanting to know the different types of fish, sharks and whales there are in the world and we have read lots of stories and fact books based upon this to flourish their knowledge and interests.
Towards the end of the week, we have once again welcomed more holiday campers and familiar faces with open arms and have continued the vast array of activities in the forest. Unfortunately, disaster struck at Putney Heath!!! A Volcano erupted and filled the whole forest with Lava! But not to worry, the children had an amazing idea. They used the slack line that was put up to cross to the other side of the forest where it was safe. They took it in turns to carefully balance along the line and cheered each other on as they made it to the other side and to safety. Phew! Thanks to the quick thinking of the children, everyone was safe from the lava.
We’ve had a lovely week here at Putney Heath and we wish you all a restful weekend!
