New friends and new adventures
We ended a brilliant week making some wonderful creations using the junk modelling resources. Using cardboard boxes, toilet tubes, lids and other recycled objects, the children worked together to build a rocket. They even added red and yellow tissue paper to the back to create some fierce fire to help the rocket fly.
We began the new week welcoming some new friends into the forest, many embarking on their first time away from their family, so a big step for them all. The older children welcomed the younger ones with open arms and helped to show them forest life and the way things work. We headed into the forest on Monday morning to discover a terrific tunnel had been made by the educators. The children enjoyed shuffling through, conquering their fears when they emerged from the dark tunnel.
Throughout the week we’ve had a very welcomed visit from Robin Hood. One of the children has kindly brought in her Robin Hood hat and each day a different educator has worn the hat and has embodied the character with great enthusiasm. The children have loved this, and it has been great fun to try and spot Robin Hood in and around the forest.
Further into the week, we continued to welcome new friends into the forest and painting has been a popular activity amongst the new little ones. Cardboard has been pegged up onto the trees and the children have enjoyed creating some marvellous masterpieces, painting with their hands, leaves and paintbrushes and getting into a positively painty mess!
A trip to the hairdressers was not to be missed, and our fantastic salon was open and ready for us to use. Our trusty hairdressers washed, cut, and styled the educators hair and even organised our next appointments, writing them down in their diaries. I think we would all give them a 5-star rating and would recommend our forest hairdressers to everyone!
A bittersweet week for us here at Putney Heath as we have loved welcoming our new friends to the forest, but we are so sad to have to say goodbye to some of our old friends. We will miss you all so much but wish you all the best in your next adventures!
