Putney Heath - Gastropod Greatness

Gastropod Greatness

Our Little Forest Folk-ers have had an exceptional week in the forest with the wet weather bringing unique opportunities for the children to explore our picturesque environment.

Upon venturing into our forest this week, the children took a different path and to their amazement they found some gastropods living amongst the tall grass. They watched as the snails slithered slowly and decided they wanted to investigate further. Our mini beast loving explorers perched the snails carefully on their bodies and watched as they glided up their arms and onto their clothes! It was wonderful to see the unique shells each snail had and all their different sizes.

After filling our bellies with some delicious snack, the children decided to make a special home for their newfound friends. They thought about what the snails might like to eat and what would keep them safe. The children collected some leaves, sticks and we also got some lettuce from the clubhouse! It was amazing to watch as they munched their way slowly through their lunch.

Towards the end of the week, the children enjoyed getting involved in a challenge that Lara had made for them. The children had to throw a dice and count the spots as it landed on a number, they then had to throw a ball through a hole with the same number! It was great to watch the children have different strategies, some with under arm throws, some with over arm. Some of our Little Forest Folk-ers threw it with great force, while others used a more gentle approach.

We hope you all enjoy your weekends, and the football! We can’t wait to see you next week for some more forest fun.
