This week the children have shown off their creativity in lots of different ways!
On adventures and long walks to basecamp, the children have engaged in lots of different games. On one day the children came to the cricket pitch to find a machine making holes in the ground for extra drainage. This sparked an impromptu dance with the children coming up with their own moves to mimic the machine! There were lots of different ideas and the children expressed themselves in a wonderful array of different body movements. At the roly-poly hill the children ran, jump, slipped and slid down the hill. Some chose to try to run as fast as they could whilst others enjoyed experimenting with different ways of rolling. Some even took a running jump to slide down on their bottoms!
At base camp this week the children have enjoyed a range of creative activities from making leaf pictures and building new types of dens to exploring firework painting with a shoebox, some conkers, fir cones and different coloured paints! These new techniques are picked up very quickly by the children and they love taking them and creating their own new methods.
Creativity has also been at the heart of the children’s role-play games. We have had magic potions, dragon adventures, hairdressing salons, awesome dinosaur families and lots of adventures in our forest car! Whilst engaged in these games it has been fantastic to see how well the children communicate with each other, seamlessly continuing a narrative and expressively acting out their character. In the family of dinosaurs each member moved and behaved differently! Some were upright and roared loudly, some had claws, and some went about on all fours. Some were babies and squeaked in their makeshift house. The confidence in the children to express themselves in this way is always so uplifting for all and it has inspired many of the educators to get creative with their own storytelling and drama skills!
Lara took the children on a fabulous adventure on a dragon. The children all climbed onto his back and set off into the skies! They were covered by fabric as the night sky enclosed all around them and when they flew up high above the clouds the next day, they were able to touch a rainbow!
With so much imagination in the forest this week we are all excited to see where the children will lead us next week! Have a lovely weekend!
