This week in the forest the children have explored their imaginations in wonderful ways. They have used their amazing building skills to create their own incredible role-play props and resources.
We brought a new large log into the forest which has been the centre of lots of wonderful creations. On one day, the children were very keen to build a double decker bus! They decided that we needed some rope over the top of the log so that they could use sticks to make a staircase to the upper level. They spent hours tying knots and building the sides of their bus. Later on the children got on the bus and drive it to various locations. They went to London, Africa and then to each other’s houses! Later on the bus was driven extremely fast and it tore through the forest! Then the police came and arrested everyone on the bus and put them in jail.
Our hammock has been popular this week and the children have used it in new and interesting ways. On one day it became a surf board with ocean waves all around it, and the children became professional surfers catching amazing rides. Then they spotted sharks in the water just as the wave got even bigger! It was difficult to surf the big waves amongst shark infested waters but the children worked together to get to the shore safely. On another day the hammock became a space rocket! The astronauts boarded the rocket counted down and took off up into the sky to visit far off planets and stars!
The children also made a car where the children took turns do drive through traffic lights – stopping when it was red and going off again when it was green. After their driving lessons the children also made special flowers made from leaves, sticks and string and they planted them in the ground carefully making sure their was enough water, soil and sunlight.
The physical challenges the children have undertaken this week have been amazing. The children have climbed amazing spiderwebs and built their own unique obstacle courses which they have tackled with increasing confidence. Some of our youngest children have shown off their skills in jumping off objects and landing carefully with two feet. They have balanced along thin planks with ease and shown their determination and resilience as they overcame their own challenges. The children’s independence astounds us every day!
