This week the children have shown their incredible independence in new ways!
From creating their own drama stories in collaborative groups to putting on their backpacks for the first time. These children are determined to do things for themselves! The role-play games have extended this week with the reintroduction of some of our dress up clothes. This spurred some new themes and new dynamics as the children explored playing with new friends. Some children went on a minibeast adventure to the meadows. Whilst there We spotted butterflies, moths, red beetles, honey bees, ants, dragonflies, grass hoppers and birds.
As the weather heated up we decided to cool ourselves down with an ice experiment. The children collected different natural materials which we then froze in water overnight. The next day they experimented with ways of breaking into the ice using sticks and stones! There were lots of conversation about why the ice turns to water and what makes the ice melt faster! Eventually everything was used in the mud kitchen to make special hot weather treats!
The treats didn’t stop there as the children made birthday cakes and flower displays using oasis foam, sticks and leaves. They used them in their role play games and sang happy birthday to countless friends!
The children tested throwing paper airplanes in the hot weather. They enjoyed seeing which plane could go the furthest and seeing which design they liked the best. Then they got a plane stuck in the tree and spent the next hour finding different ways of getting it down. They tried poking it with long sticks, throwing smaller sticks up high. The latter technique proved more fruitful and the children were keen for more challenge so they flew their planes into more difficult to get places in the trees!
With so much challenge in the forest we are looking forward to seeing what exciting new adventures we will go on next week!
We hope you have a wonderful weekend!!
