Awesome Adventures!
We ended last week with some fantastic wild cooking, where the children had the opportunity to decorate their own pancakes. The children used their amazing fine motor skills to carefully cut up strawberries and bananas to stick on their pancakes with honey. They then added some extra magic and added rainbow sprinkles to the top of their pancakes! What a wonderful way to end our week.
We headed into the new week excited for a week of awesome morning adventures. We had planned to explore our surrounding forest and embark on some identification hunts. We began the week with another litter picking adventure. We embarked on a long walk and managed to fill up another full bag of rubbish, filled with plastic bottles, cans, PPE masks and sweet wrappers. The children used our litter identification sheets to tick off each piece of rubbish and then we counted them up at the end.
Further into the week we went for a morning adventure walk to look for signs of spring where we found sticky buds, new leaves, moss and lichen and we even spent some quiet moments where we listened to the different birdsong. As we found the signs of spring the children used pens to mark them off on our spring identification sheets. The sun was shining, and the sky was blue which lifted all of our spirits and made for such a wonderful day.
Towards the end of the week, we went on our most exciting adventure yet… We went to the pond! Here, we were lucky enough to spot a heron, some ducks and moorhens who made a very loud high-pitched squeak. The children enjoyed copying the squeak! One of our educators then carefully scooped some frogspawn out of the pond into a jug to give the children a closer look. The children looked closely at the tadpoles growing in the spawn and were excited to come back later in the year to see the tadpoles swimming. We even spotted a frog and one of our educators carefully handled it whilst the children had a closer look.
Wow what an awesome week we have had here at Putney Heath. We have enjoyed our amazing adventures and hope you all have a restful weekend!
