Autumn treasures
This week we have been enjoying discovering all the autumn treasures in the forest. On our adventure walks we have been finding leaves emblazoned with yellow and orange, and also collecting bags and bags of conkers! Most of our play in the forest has revolved around using the natural resources in many creative ways.
The children started by lining up the conkers to see how many there were, which almost inevitably turned into a conker snake - the children then informed us the conker snake would come alive at night time! On this theme, some branches were used as mythical monsters, crocodiles and peacock tail feathers! There has been cooking shows using the conkers as key ingredients, and as popcorn for a movie night in the mud kitchen.
Some of the children have used the paints to paint conkers bold colours and to make beautiful patterns and flowers on the ground. We also had some amazing singing and rowing boat expeditions around the forest in log boats with branch oars.
There were even some super spontaneous science experiments! When children began dropping conkers, acorns and stones in the puddles we discovered, we discusses which objects float and which ones sink. The children also invented slides to roll the conkers down and the children held their own conker races! This idea was developed even further with recycled cardboard tubes and mud kitchen pots and pans for a conker obstacle course.
We hope you have had a wonderful week too and we wish you all fabulous weekends!
