A real winter’s day!
With sub-zero temperatures, snow and ice the children showed great strength and resilience as they ventured out into the cold with smiles on their faces!
We had such a wonderful time adventuring off to different parts of the Heath. We explored the areas around the lake finding large panes of ice. The children enjoyed crunching it under foot listening to the sounds it made and throwing it out onto the iced over lake and watching it shatter into thousands of pieces like glass. Some children found large pieces which they held up to their faces to peer through! Conversations about which animal their piece of ice looked like started up! We had ice bears, ice tigers and ice dinosaurs!
On the far side of the lake the children explored a lovely area with climbing trees and a den. They role-played lava heroes with great energy keeping themselves warm with a fast-paced game! They also climbed some new trees, testing out routes and challenging themselves on the slippery surface of the bark!
We also adventured to our favourite roly-poly hill. The children ran as fast as they could jumped and slid down the snow covered hill! Hysterical laughter echoed around the trees as they slipped and rolled back down whilst trying to climb back to the top. Once they did manage to get to the top some children stopped at a snowdrift to build mini snowmen whilst others turned around to slide down the hill again!
On our adventure walks outside we have taken new routes and the children enjoyed trekking through the winter wonderland! The sound of the snow beneath their feet and robins chirping in the yew trees made for a lovely stroll and chat! It is so lovely to hear the children chatting away to each other as they take in their surroundings.
Back on main paths frozen puddles became the focus of the fun for the children. They jumped up high to smash through the ice and marvelled as cold muddy water rose up from beneath! The sheer joy in the children’s faces as they made the first breakthrough stayed on their faces until there was no ice left to break!
Next week we will be welcoming some of our wonderful siblings into the forest for holiday camps. We are all looking forward to welcoming you back to play in a slightly warmer forest!
