A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed.
The forest is a sensory joy during Autumn and this week has been no different with the crisp leaves crunching beneath our feet and the fresh air travelling up our noses. The children at Putney Heath have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the forest for all its wonders, exploring small holes, using their minds to come to conclusions of who might live inside, a mouse, a mole or perhaps a rabbit?
The exploration of habitats continued whilst the children collected big bunches of leaves to make giant mountains! Whilst collecting we enjoyed thinking about who might live in a big leaf mountain, some children suggested foxes or bees, but we decided that hedgehogs would be the happiest in this giant leaf mountain. We then enjoyed looking at pictures of hedgehogs, seeing them coming out of their leaf homes and looking at their cute little snouts.
This activity also demonstrated how amazing our Little Forest Folk-ers are at teamwork as they used the big purple bucket to transport the leaves to where the pile was. It has been wonderful to see how the children have supported each other on numerous occasions, helping each other when they fall over, preserving through when they are struggling to get their friends up. Other children have also been kindly helping others get dressed in the morning, assisting each other with their waterproof straps. The children are also amazing at helping with packing down the camp towards the end of the day, collecting mud kitchen utensils or hunting down a rainbow ribbon. What wonderfully kind children we have here at Putney Heath.
Towards the end of the week we went on an exciting adventure across the Heath, exploring the natural growth which has occurred through the month, such as mushrooms of all different shapes and sizes. We discussed our ‘no picking, no licking’ rule and reminded our friends to just observe. We also went into the tunnel, racing together to see who could get there first and listening to our echoes when we got inside, using our ears to explore the way sound travels, bouncing across the walls.
The children also enjoyed getting creative this week, making special postcards for our mummies and daddies, with our summer travels circling in our minds. The children also made some dream catchers which they later put above their heads whilst sleeping during role play to try and catch their dreams! These later turned into tennis rackets and it was amazing to see how far the children could hit their leaf ball across the camp!
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and we cannot wait to see you next week for more autumn adventures!
