Fulham - Discoveries

Though it’s been a wetter week, the children’s spirits haven’t been dampened! We have noticed how nicely the children have been playing not only with their closest friends, but with children they might not normally play with. There has been a lot of collaboration and discussion this week where children have been thinking about how their ideas for construction and role play can merge with others; the ever popular Batmobile, made from wooden pallets, took on a whole new life this week selling ice creams to Batman and all his superhero friends!

Harriet noticed that the children have been showing an interest in letters, especially in their own names and those of friends. Our bag of letter cookies has been a well-used resource and Harriet has helped those wanting to take part to find the right letters for their names and sounding them out. We found that it is also a really creative activity with many new and funny words being made simply by placing letters together and seeing what sound they make.

On the Robins team this week, the most fantastic oven was made to cook a variety of foods. Leafs, sticks and pinecones were gathered and arranged in such lovely ways, almost to look like flower arrangements! One of the dishes that went into the oven was an ice cream dessert. It prompted a discussion about hot and cold with the children acting the ice cream melting which sadly left none to eat!

Katie brought in a new book this week that was about notes for living on planet earth. The children shared different planets they knew, what they needed to survive and all about their bodies. The book showed a beautiful page full of lots of different people doing lots of different jobs. It was lovely to see the children distinguish them and relate some of them to people they know or have seen. There was a picture of a bee keeper and many of them told Katie that it looks just like the Bee keepers that look after the bee’s in Fulham palace.

Stepping back and watching our two different bubbles play, laugh and discover new things has been so nice to watch. The children have done so well adapting to change, whether it be the weather, new teachers and friends or simply a new way we’ve found to walk into the forest. We’re constantly in awe of how our children take on any challenge and show resilience in everything they do. We look forward to a new month (how can it be October already?!) and many more adventures!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
