Our Week in the Forest...
The forest this week has been a marvellous mix of storytelling, animal investigation and pirates!
The children have thoroughly enjoyed listening to the stories read and told by adults early on in the week. They gathered in huddles around their favourite books and discussed what was happening. After the stories, the inevitable role play ensued. 'Supertato and the Evil Pea' made a comeback as they went around causing havoc amongst the other veggies. We also had some wonderful acting out of ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’ - the children gathered around in the mud kitchen and made different kinds of foods before a huge growl and a loud knock came at the front door. The tiger was invited in and offered ice-cream, cakes, soup, pizza, sausages and milkshakes.
The children have also practiced their own storytelling this week. Many children have enjoyed prowling around the forest on a bear hunt as they retold and acted out the well-known story. Before long, everyone was joining in, anticipating what would happen next and even creating their own versions of the stories. The storytelling escalated until we had 2 year olds standing on a platform around all of their forest friends shouting out their own short unique stories with huge grins on their faces!
The climbing tree has become a pirate ship nearly every day this week. Often the pirates were fishing for sharks over the side of the boat or raising the flag to warn off other sea goers. Calls of “where’s my treasure?” and “hoist the anchor” could be heard. At one point Charlie was even made to walk the plank and jump into the shark infested waters below!
With the first frosty morning this week we look forward to more beautiful crisp mornings in the weeks to come. Have a lovely weekend!
