We are now in October, where does the time go? This October will be a busy time for us in the forest as we celebrate Harvest festival, Black History Month and enjoy spooky activities as Halloween approaches. At the weekend one of our educators distributed our food bank collection to a local supermarket.
Putney Heath - Conkers!
Morden - Forest Safari!
Fulham - Scarecrows, tractors and harvesting
Chiswick - Every leaf speaks FUN to me
Chiswick - Come rain, come shine, come wind
Fulham - please fasten your seatbelts
Transport has been the theme this week, so on set up, the educators have been building cars, planes, boats, taxis, and a much-needed petrol station to fill up with fuel! Over the last few weeks, the children have been making airports with the magnetic shapes and lots have been role playing Pilots and passengers ready to board flights to South Africa, Northern Ireland, and the beach!
Morden - Forest Beans on Toast!
Putney Heath - The wonderful world of science and discovery
Twickenham - Crunchy leaves
Wandsworth - permaculture
Wimbledon - Cosy bug homes
With the Autumn arriving and the weather changing, the children have been looking at the different ways that the forest around us is changing and how we can use it day-to-day. The leaves are falling, which make for so many fun games and activities for the children, as well as the wind making it fun to watch as they fly through the air.
Chiswick - Collecting conkers
Another wonderful week gone just like that! Can you believe it? This week was recycling week for us at Chiswick. We made robots out of old cereal boxes and toilet rolls, tote bags out of old t shirts, built road tracks out of cardboard and even went on an adventure walk and collected so many conkers.
Fulham - “Shark, shark! Back on board me hearties!”
What a fantastic week it’s been! We have really noticed how helpful and attentive the children have been during our forest school rules and when interacting and playing with others. The many structures and activities set up can often mean lots of children are gathered in the same area and are keen to play with the same resources.
Morden - Magic in the forest!
To start our week in the forest, we had the fabulous music teacher Joe bring in something exciting for our Little Forest Folk-ers to listen to - a trombone! We were amazed to see a new instrument in the forest, and the children began to speak about the interesting way the trombone looked and sounded!
Putney Heath - Creative Creatures
Twickenham - The big bad wolf
What a wonderful start to Autumn this week. The weather has been gorgeous, and the children have enjoyed a warm forest full of the sounds of birdsong. This is a perfect time to explore the footpath along the River Crane and encourage your child to observe the glorious colours of the leaves as they begin to change.
Wandsworth - Design discussions
Over the past few days, we’ve rolled over the play ideas of the children that all very much enjoyed being pirates or sailors last week. From the very start of the day after breakfast, children have been rolling, lifting, and shifting all the logs, planks, nets and parts into even more magnificently mountainesque galleons fit for a formidable crew.
